My friends and family know that I had breast cancer many years ago, but what they don't know are the details. As I celebrate my 80th year on this earth, it's important to me to give back to other women facing the same terrifying situation.

I was only 57 years old when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had no family history, so to say I was shocked is an understatement. I was successfully treated with lumpectomy surgery and radiation, and continued on with my life.

But then 10 years later -- almost to the day of the first time -- I was diagnosed for the second time, in the other breast. This was not a recurrence -- it was a brand new, primary cancer. Again, I was successfully treated with lumpectomy surgery and radiation.

I have never been in a fashion show before. One of my daughters-in-law connected me with Runway to the Cure, and I agreed to model.

I'm surrounded by the love and support of my husband, 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. I want other women to see me and know they will have a full and vibrant life.

**I'm asking for your support of me and this fundraiser. Any amount that you can give will go a long way to delivering vital treatment and research for a cure. And remember -- your donation is tax deductible!**

Here is more information about the event and where the precious funds go to:

Each year, Reston Runway to the Cure, Inc., (www.runwaytothecure.org) with founding sponsors Scout & Molly’s Boutique, Hyatt Regency Reston, and BXP, dedicates the proceeds from its runway show to both 1) a national organization conducting research to end breast cancer and 2) grants to 501(c)(3) community-based breast cancer non-profit organizations in the local Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.

Local retailers provide the outfits, jewelry, and accessories that the models wear in the show, while others donate hair styling and makeup. Like me, all of the models in the show are former or current breast cancer warriors.

This year the donations go to:

- HealthWorks for Northern Virginia - they provides compassionate, comprehensive care, offering vital services including mammograms and ultrasounds to patients who might not otherwise be able to afford them.

- The Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research. With over 70 experts, the center focuses on prevention, treatment, and genetic research.

***Please support me and donate any amount you can -- and remember it's tax deductible!**
