Each year, Reston Runway to the Cure, Inc. (www.runwaytothecure.org), in collaboration with founding sponsors Scout & Molly’s Boutique, Hyatt Regency Reston, and Boston Properties, dedicates the proceeds from its highly anticipated runway show to a two-fold mission. First, they substantially contribute to a national organization dedicated to eradicating breast cancer through groundbreaking research - this year benefiting METAvivor (www.metavivor.org). Secondly, they channel their efforts into granting support to 501(c)(3) community-based breast cancer non-profit organizations in the local Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area - this year benefitting IIIBs Foundation (www.keepthecandleglowing.org).

This exciting annual event is a unifying force, bringing together local merchants, corporations, and families from our community. We all share the common goals of finding a cure for breast cancer and offering unwavering support to those bravely battling this disease. Local retailers generously provide the stunning outfits, jewelry, and accessories that our models, including myself, proudly showcase on the runway.

All the models gracing our runway, myself included, are either former or current breast cancer warriors themselves. Our stories bring a deeply personal element to the show, celebrating the extraordinary inner and outer beauty that shines through our strength and resilience. As each participant gracefully walks down the runway, we aren't running from our disease; we own it, embodying the fortitude required to conquer it.

My journey to becoming a survivor, advocate, and unwavering voice for health and education equity began with a diagnosis of Stage 3 Inflammatory Breast Cancer at age 38. Today, I stand ten years cancer-free, celebrating life's precious moments with my children, who were only in preschool, 2nd, and 6th grade during my treatment and now blossomed into an 8th grader, college freshman, and college senior. With the unwavering support of my husband, I underwent the relentless battle of chemotherapy, mastectomy, and rounds of radiation, emerging stronger each day. My passion for equity, amplified by the stark disparities faced by Black women battling breast cancer, led me to author 'I've Been Diagnosed, Now What?' My story has touched lives, featured on Good Morning America, the Washington Post, Huffington Post, and USA Today. Together, let's fight for equity and celebrate life's victories.
